OUGD504 Studio Brief 03 - "A brief history of...website" (extended brief) - Research

At this point, it is clear that I need to look into design for web that communicates and is similar to the avant garde 'Pretty Ugly', although I am unsure of the exact function of my website as of yet, it is clear that I can't present work related to the Pretty Ugly in a modernist manner, as this is contradictory and shows little consideration between form, content and communication.

Looking at UX and design for contemporary/ avant-garde web.

An erratic arrangement of images, videos, search bars and refresh buttons.

A seemingly static website, when scrolling down, the next image appears to slide over the previous.

An imitated 3d isometric grid creates the grid for a website

An irregularly scaled homepage of skewed type.

Although there is a clear regular grid layout, it is the use of two languages simultaneously that interests me here.

The first website I've visited that is possible to scroll in all directions.
Images are highlighted when selected.

The icons around the screen are fixed.

Images are scaled to fit accordingly to original size.

Only 2 fixed icons needed here; Home & Zoom in/out.

Background a tiled image, similar to 'bad design' of early www. websites.

Another any direction scroll page, a lot more enjoyable and questions why we limit web to similarities to print?

Fixed Icons so a user can never get lost.

The homepage consists of a motion graphic of this collage.

Two Points, the editors of the book 'Pretty Ugly'.

3 Horizontal rows move constantly with type and image.

Each row is titled according to content of images.

An interactive animated website, constantly moving options wait to be selected.

Selected options are animated to show further options until...

the result page is opened.

I included this as a simple silhouette, when highlighted is white, but when not, is always still visible against any image.

Although the design of this website isn't too irregular, it is the use of colour I would like to note here.
Colour is used to signify different articles, this could be good for a cluttered page, but would have to be finished well.
