Responsive / NEED MONEY FOR NYC / Development

Jamie's encounter with the copied sign.
This photograph captures my interpretation of NYC, as someone who has never been.
Photography of New York has become saturated and is a range of the same interpretations of the same things, from Jamie's context, as a tourist.

This sign isn't original and has been duplicated thousands of times in aid to humour potential donators,

it is the idea of creating something without money I want to focus on; just as the sign is.

The aesthetic that is created un-intentionally by using found materials interests me.

The cardboard box. The most commonly used material for sign making without a budget.
Easily found and absorbent of ink, the cardboard box is the plaque of the people.
No layouts / Kerning / Gutters / X height / Baselines / Fill / Stroke

Creating a 'well designed' sign asking for 'Money for weed' is inappropriate and contradictory.
A hand illustrated sign conveys the desperation of the beholder.

Designed with the slight intention of being legible:

This sign has no call to action resulting in poor donations (presumably).
$$$: Symbols can be used in replace of language.
Illustrations can be included in counters of 'O's.

Emotion illustrations are used to soften the provocative statement.

'Why lie' used in the hope that the beholders honesty is seen as admirable.

The use of two colours helps exaggerate 'weed'

Illustrations of cannabis leafs are used to clarify what form of 'weed' they are referring to.

'Yo': an informal tone of voice is used to induce humour.
