Erik Brandt’s Ficciones Typografika

Ficciones Typografika is a project dedicated to typographic exploration in a public space and is curated by Erik Brandt. The exhibition surface is a 72”Wx36”H poster board which can host three 24”x36” posters at a time.

Call for Submissions:

Typographic work in your native language is encouraged and most welcome. Ideally, the poster should be B&W only and have no bleeds (these can be accommodated, please include crop marks). Content and theme are completely up to you but keep in mind the space is public. Available paper colors are plain white, light green, light blue, light yellow, or pink bond paper.

This is a continuing project so there is no deadline. Please submit your work via email to erikbrandt (at) typografika (dot) com in PDF format, and please include crop marks if you require bleeds.

Submission Notes:

1. Not all submissions will be accepted. Those that are accepted will be notified but it may take some time before your poster is wheat pasted.

2. Your poster, along with a link to your preferred website, will be featured on the project Tumblr and the Facebook Page.

3. Posters are printed at the curator’s own expense. If you agree to participate, a collection of these posters may be printed sometime in the future in a newsprint format, same size. Any profit gained from that will be reapplied to the next publication. Contributors will receive one copy of the publication gratis, if and when it is created.

Ficciones Typografika is well renowned platform, with a great social media following, the platform explores typographic exploration in a public space and digitally.

The attraction for creatives to participate with the project may derive from interest in conceptual practice alongside the sufficient professional publicity, whatever the intent for submission, the project is one of love – it is not run for profit.

My intent in participating in the project derived from the ability to showcase results from my creative exploration, there are little platforms that promote self-initiated experiments. The sufficient publicity and pride as a result of being accepted was also a pleasure.

Without a brief in it’s traditional sense, the platform asked for typographic experiments, the result of unorthodox, concept driven practice.

The aesthetic within my submission ‘FUN FUN FUN’ derived from exactly that, the practice of enjoying the ability to explore new typographic forms that may not be freely available in a commercial environment.

The visual language found within the submission was then, not an immediate derivation from the traditional idea of fun but a more personal practice of art – expressing emotion through the visual, in this case, 2D image.

The technical abilities and explored through practice I developed in this piece can be seen as a reward, allowing myself to learn while experimenting developed my skills on Adobe program, Photoshop.

To have my submission accepted was brilliant of course, be it to put on a C.V, add to my digital presence or even use it as an excuse to talk to other contributors – why would I have not submitted?!
