How I would define myself as a creative at
this current point in time

The sector / industry and content I intend
to work with is….
Although this sector can be very
superficial in a sense, it is content with beneficial agendas that I aspire to
work with.
In a broader sense it is the capturing,
documenting and translation of contemporary culture.
Publishing would be the more enjoyable of
the two however the advertising industry is attractive to me and rewards a
higher rate of pay – I Intend to work in the advertising industry without the
compromising of my own values while enjoying the practice. Seeing the industry
as the sale of creativity instead of all consuming consumerism.

The work I would like to practice within
this industry is design and direction.
This is to include a wide range of visual
outcomes and focuses, primarily under the umbrella of Creative director, this could
include editorial design, styling and in a more general sense, a curator of
content.

Here are 3 broad statements of intent in
which I’d like to focus my practice upon..

To further develop a commercial
approach is to aid my success within the industry, this is not by any means a
censoring of my practice to adhere but the adapting of work to become
commercially viable, creating new markets, defining new audiences and
innovating publishing #fingerscrossed

To Improve technical abilities
to an industry standard. This is a statement derived from experience within the
industry. Without the intent to become derogative of design education I believe
the technical abilities needed by entry level jobs within the industry are
somewhat overlooked, a focus on technical ability is left to the individual; it
is this development of skills, I believe necessary, I intend to develop to a
suitable level.

To develop publishing,
photography and direction skills. This is a broader intention with the outcome
to become fluent in a broad range of creative direction. It is also a practice
in which I thoroughly enjoy and intend to apply as a career, as stated
previously.

module.

These are the people and professions I

These briefs will help me develop as a professional,
help me create a portfolio that communicates my beliefs & agendas as well
showcasing a UNIQUE SELLING POINT.
One of the most exciting briefs here is
TRUNK, A publishing platform I intend to create with various people but
primarily a LDN based editor / writer I met at Dazed & Confused.
TRUNK is a reference
of progressive creative youth culture conceived from a criticism of
contemporary publishing. TRUNK names and praises the tastemakers, pace setters,
and influential people of the UK arts scene. It translates British youth
culture into a media outlet, a beacon of inspiration and aspiration for social,
political and ethical agendas, through relatable content.

Context Of Practice is
the module in which my practice is underpinned.
My practice in this
module will consist of an investigation into the relationship between youth
culture and contemporary editorial design and advertising; or in a broader
sense, publishing.
It is this
investigation that will inform my extended practice and general knowledge of
the industry. The outcome of this investigation will ~ hopefully ~ also benefit
me within a commercial context, the research project will aid me in translating
contemporary youth culture into a commercially viable product – such as TRUNK.

Overview.
This three diagrams
attempt to show the synthesis I have created between the three modules of Level
6. COP, PPP and Extended Practice will hopefully influence each other
beneficially to achieve all of my ~ wildest ~ intentions.
COP underpins my practice, investigating
the theory behind my interest within visual culture.
PPP will structure both myself and my
practice into a commercial environment while building a network to use post
LCA.
Extended Practice is the module in which I
can fully practice and develop my intentions.

This is an aspect of
PPP in which I am to focus on greatly this year. Not only for the benefits of
adding to a C.V but creating a network that is currently in industry and
putting myself in a position in which various amounts of opportunities open
regularly.
